The ‘on’ and ‘off’ state
When a threat is present we experience in our body an “on” alarm state during which we are ready to fight. In the absence of a threat this state is turned “off“. When in chronic stress and pain our brain is constantly “on” in order to fight, not understanding that it could regulate its survival mechanism differently, and this leads to fatigue.
Have you ever noticed that when it is sunny outside you might for once notice less your stress/pain? In that moment, you have just found a way to control your stress and pain perception by deciding to switch attention from your internal ”on” state to an external situation. In this way you turn ‘’off” briefly the brain stress/pain alarm.
Some of us feel stress and pain (physical condition) some others somatize their stress and pain (psychosomatic). PSYportrait is here to listen to those signals you experience, the ”on” alarm states and can teach you coping techniques for stress and pain.
